Webster (R5p27) defines marketing as the total activities involved in the moving of goods from the producer to the consumer. Elsewhere (R5p28) the course notes suggest that there is a misconception that marketing is somehow unspiritual and at best is a tool used to manipulate people into making decisions that they wouldn’t otherwise make.
I put it to you that together these definitions actually fulfil Jesus’ commands in Matthew 28:18-20. Jesus says he has been given all authority over everything- doesn’t that include the tool of marketing? Far from being unspiritual, Jesus actually commands us to make disciples by spreading the Good News (transfer the information from the producer, Christ, to the consumer, the unbeliever) in order to make them disciples (manipulate them into making decisions they would not otherwise make).Is the Holy Spirit then, our marketeer in chief ? Statement 9 of Morreale et al ( p 82&85) reads “ understanding one another and sharing meaning is the sole foundation for good communication.” Certainly the inability to communicate clearly with one another was not a problem for the intergalactic hitchhiker. It can however be a problem intergenerationally as tweens and 20 somethings reassign meaning to symbols in their social networking. (I have an 18yr old cousin who communicated in rapped code with his fiends especially so that others did not understand them. It was a survival mechanism for the city area in which they lived).It is possible to understand the gist of a foreign language through context and body language ( for example the Latin mass?).
Moreale maintains the art of diplomacy encourages ambiguity. He regards it as a good thing stating that good communication encourages conflict. This may be so in intergovernmental communiqué or in the corporate boardroom but I dispute that this could be the basis for the faith body of the church or indeed the basis for a good marriage. Here good communication is essential.

Hi from the Sounds

We have lived here about 30yrs now. I've just been down to my son's house to welcome the newest member of the clan- a grandson-5 days old.The whole family live and work on the farm. I am blessed
Originally a city girl with a scientific research background, I have always been a church musician. About 5 yrs ago I enrolled at Laidlaw. After a B min I transferred to Otago where last year I achieved a Dip Post Grad Min. I transferred to a M. Min at the beginning of the year.
I am a lay reader in the local Havelock and Sounds Anglican church. I have just had three months off work as I had a melanoma in my eye.(I can quite proudly say I am one eyed now and mean it!). The stats for this sort of thing are grim, however I heard last week that the CT scan was clear. The hospital will continue monitoring every three months for up to 10 yrs....
In the meantime I want to learn about more effective means of communication that will help to build community in the isolated area in which I live.
